Doing it the right way!
Microsoft windows server isn't overly cheap but unfortunately many businesses are tied to the windows world. Your software just won't run on a linux or Mac server. If this is you, then you are paying for server and user licensing wether you like it or not.
Wether you're a small business needing a single windows server or a bigger corporation requiring multiple domain controllers, these installs should be non-intrusive and without stress. I've never done a server installation (or multiples) that has taken more than a weekend, and the next business day should be a matter of small fixes.
I don't know how many times i've had clients tell me that their server installation took months to complete and that it hasn't really worked properly. More hardware, less software. Don't make your server do too much, load balancing is the key. I'd rather get multiple servers (less powered) than pile everything onto one server. This is another big mistake techs make.
People don't plan to fail, they fail to plan... When it comes to windows server, planning is the most important part of any installation. Your tech should know your network and know what they are getting into BEFORE the installation begins. They should have complete stock of all data and software to be reloaded and some kind of idea what kind of layout they'll be doing.
In the process of a server install, i've formatted and reinstalled new servers up to 9 times before I get an install that i'm satisfied with. Errors in a fresh install could be anything from a bad driver, bad cd, missing files or corruption. They are bound to come back and bite you in the years to come. Through the process of a server installation, I've gotten to know what errors and warnings are to be expected, and which ones will go away as the installation process continues. If there are errors I don't recognize, the server is formatted off and started again. This is the only way to ensure a good, clean installation that will last.
My work is gauranteed!!!
You as the customer should demand a good server build, one that's going to run problem free for at least 4 or 5 years. I cannot gaurantee that your hardware isn't going to fail mind you. But if the hardware is stable and your server remains virus free, I will fix any issues on my time, not yours.
Thank you.
